An invitation is not an assignment

Learn to tell the difference before saying yes.

An invitation offers a possibility. An assignment relies on an actual responsibility and a legitimate scope. The same friendly words can describe either, which is why the distinction should be made explicit.

Ask what is being requested, who is asking, whether an agreement already applies, and what happens if the answer is no. Neither a relationship nor a repeated pattern of helping is enough to answer those questions by itself.

You can make the practical part clear without turning a boundary into a debate. “I can do this piece, not that one” may be a sufficient description of an offer.
