Keep an idea yours

Support does not transfer authorship.

Advice can help an idea develop without making the adviser its owner. A conversation, an introduction, or financial support does not by itself determine who authored the work or who may publish it.

Keep the original and the changes distinguishable. A revision can acknowledge useful contributions while preserving the words, marks, and decisions that came before it.

An actual agreement can create real obligations. Name those agreements clearly rather than inferring them from kindness, closeness, silence, or past help.
